Cooper Conversation: Nature Art: Drawing Connections to the Great Outdoors

This Cooper Conversation will provide an interactive perspective on how nature can inspire art, how art can teach us about the natural world, and how nature art can be used to educate and inspire others. The event will begin with a brief introductory panel, followed by two hands-on art activities with our featured guests.

The topic ties to this year’s E. N. Thompson Forum on World Issues theme, "Lessons from the Natural World," and the UHON 298H seminar "Art Against the Odds: Creativity in Troubled Times" taught by Dr. Sandra Williams. This event is open to all students!

The event will feature the following artists:

  • Grace Gaard: Nature artist and Aquatic Ecology Education Specialist, Nebraska Game and Parks Commission
  • Stacy Asher: Associate Professor of Art in Graphic Design and graphic designer engaged in projects addressing societal and environmental challenges
  • Sandra Williams: Associate Professor of Art in Art & Art History and artist exploring ecotone: the zone where “nature” and “culture” intersect
