Future Healers
Explore what it means to become a healthcare professional through hands-on learning, real-world experience, and meaningful community engagement. Future Healers is designed for second- and third-year students interested in medicine, public health, mental health, and other health-related careers who want to learn by doing!
Track Leaders: Dr. Erin Sayer, Dr. Shinya Takahashi, and Dr. Anh Do
Learn: Build a strong academic foundation and a cohort of peers by enrolling in UHON 301H (Fall; 1 credit) and UHON 302H (Spring; 1 credit). Enjoy priority registration in health-related UHON 298H and 395H seminars.
Explore: Put theory into practice through volunteer work with health-focused community partners, targeted health and wellbeing trainings, and professional school application workshops. Past site visits have included the Munroe-Meyer Institute, free and low-income clinics, Syracuse Area Health, Children’s Hospital & Medical Center, and the Nebraska Athletic Performance Lab.
Collaborate: Work on group projects that have positive benefits for campus and the Lincoln community. Engage in opportunities such as Cooper Conversations, healthcare industry visits, and panel discussions with professionals in the field. Previous guests have included clinicians addressing health disparities, healthcare administrators, and mental health practitioners.
Create: Prepare strong professional or graduate school application materials and develop a professional competency plan. Plan a group volunteer experience and brainstorm solutions to pressing healthcare challenges.
