At this Cooper Conversation, entitled "Refugee Women Rebuilding Lives, Building Businesses," students will visit with local entrepreneurs and community leaders working alongside them. This conversation will explore the resilience needed to not only start over in a new country, culture, and language, but also start up a new business. The topic ties to this year’s E. N. Thompson Forum on World Issues theme, "Uprooted: Displacement, Migration and Searching for Home."
This conversation will feature:
- Ban Aldulami, member of ECHO Collective's The Refinery Cohort V and the creator behind Hello Bana Resin (custom resin art pieces)
- Carmen Castillo, member of ECHO Collective's The Refinery Cohort IV and co-owner of RC Party Accents
- Saja Kinani, member of ECHO Collective's The Refinery Cohort IV and Chief Creator behind Saja Craft (functional, woodburned art and home decor)
- Kelly Ross, Founder & Executive Director, ECHO Collective
- Fatemah Saleh, member of ECHO Collective's The Refinery Cohort VI, "cooking up great things at M. Family Food Truck where she serves a fusion of Arab American food"
Our guests will share their perspectives and then continue the conversation with small groups of students, rotating tables so students have a chance to visit with multiple guests.
