Cooper Conversation: Creative Ways to Blend Culture and Care

At this Cooper Conversation, entitled "Creative Ways to Blend Culture and Care," we will explore the topic of patient care that considers cultural practices. This conversation will feature scholars, medical professionals, and others working to improve quality of care and health outcomes through empathy and understanding of patients' cultures.

This conversation will feature:

  • Roberto Abadie, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Anthropology at UNL, researching how different forms of social stratification, in particular, class, race, and ethnicity, contribute to produce and reproduce health inequalities in marginalized populations
  • Helen Abdali Soosan Fagan, Ph.D., Assistant Professor at UNL and scholar/practitioner of the intersection of culture and healthcare
  • Andrew Shahan, MD, Family Medicine Doctor at Bluestem Health, with experience overseas and appreciation for the various cultures of the world

Campus and community leaders will share their background and expertise in a panel format and then continue the conversation in small groups with student attendees.
