At this Cooper Conversation, entitled "Newcomers Navigating U.S. Healthcare," we will explore the challenges faced by immigrants adjusting to the American healthcare system. Topics may include but are not limited to finding providers, choosing an insurance policy, accessing transportation, and overcoming language barriers. The topic ties to this year’s E. N. Thompson Forum on World Issues theme, "Uprooted: Displacement, Migration and Searching for Home."

This conversation will feature:

  • Nataliia Bohuta, Ukrainian Services Coordinator, Lincoln Literacy
  • Alix Gomez, Community Assistance Coordinator, El Centro de las Américas
  • Svitlana Lytvak, Lincoln Literacy student from Ukraine, with lived experience navigating the healthcare system
  • Nayla Torres Ruiz, UNL Honors student from Grand Island, NE, with lived experience helping family members navigate the healthcare system

Our guests will share their background and expertise in a panel format and then continue the conversation in small groups with student attendees.
