This class offers a learning experience for all involved: as UNL students teach, coach, tutor, and guide their mentees in weekly meetings and class activities, helping them to adjust to the US, they will learn about global issues, cultures, histories, and life challenges faced by mentees and their families. In addition, mentees will learn about social services, language education, and legal and academic systems available in the community as pairs work to overcome barriers to success. This course requires a year-long commitment: during the first semester, the class will be divided between class meetings and individual meetings of each mentor and mentee, while in the second semester, although UNL students will continue to meet in class and with their mentees, they may do so for variable credit. Learn About More about the Keystone XL Pipeline Fight March 5, 5:00 PM, Neihardt Blue TV Lounge "Citizen's Suits: Nebraska Activists Making a Difference in the Keystone XL Fight" The Explore Center, Honors Program and the Nebraska College of Law have a unique opportunity for you. Professor of Law Sandi Zellmer, an internationally recognized expert in the areas of natural resources, public lands, water law, and environmental law, will do a brief (15 minute) talk on the Keystone Pipeline and the legal issues on each side of the fight. The talk shows how local activists and their lawyers have had a significant impact on decision making, not only statewide but nationally. If it weren't for Nebraskans willing to take a stand in this "David vs. Goliath" dispute, the Keystone XL pipeline may have been built already, despite potential impacts on ranch lands, the Ogallala High Plains aquifer, energy conservation, and greenhouse gas emissions. The program is open to ALL students and pizza, cookies, and drinks will be provided. Questions? Email Christine Truhe, Assistant Director of Admissions, at the College of Law at christine.truhe@unl.edu.
