Football and physics topic of April 5 Nebraska Lecture Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the April 5 Nebraska Lecture at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, "Football: Its Physics and Future." Presented by physics professor Timothy Gay, who became a familiar face to Husker fans during his "Football Physics" lessons on HuskerVision in 1999-2000, the free public lecture will explore the physics behind large forces on the field. Gay also will address the history of American football, the sport's current climate, and UNL and national research efforts to understand and mitigate injuries. The lecture begins at 12:15 p.m. in Memorial Stadium's West Stadium Club. Beginning at 11:45 a.m., complimentary pizza will be available while supplies last. Visit http://go.unl.edu/nl-timgay for more information and to watch the live webcast on the day of the event. Gay's lecture, part of The Nebraska Lectures: Chancellor's Distinguished Lecture Series, is sponsored by the UNL Research Council, Office of the Chancellor, Office of Research and Economic Development and in partnership with OLLI. Funding for unpaid internships UNL Career Services, with funding from the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, will once again provide scholarships of $1,000-$1250 each to assist up to 10 students participating in internships or serviceships that are unpaid or that provide only a limited stipend. Up to 10 students will be selected. The goal of the internship scholarship program is to reduce financial barriers which prevent some students from pursuing experience in their career field of interest. The scholarship is limited to undergraduate students going into their sophomore, junior or senior year, and those who have applied or been accepted into a summer internship program within the non-profit, humanitarian, scientific research (non-profit) or government sector. The scholarship is limited to internships/serviceships in those sectors, and those which will last a minimum a minimum of 240 hours. Applications are due by noon on Friday, April 15. The program website and application form are available at the following URL: http://www.unl.edu/careers/experience/internscholarship.shtml Questions may be directed to: Dr. Kelli K. Smith, UNL Career Services (402) 472-3145smith@unl.edu Spring Colloquium: Palliative Care April 4, 1:00 pm-2:00 pm, City Campus Union, Colonial Room. The Departments of Gerontology and Communications Studies are co-hosting a spring colloquium on Palliative Care. The speaker is Dr. Lisa Mansur, a local palliative care specialist with Palliative Care Services of Nebraska. This event will be of special interest to students entering a medical field, public policy, or psychology, but it is certainly of general interest as well. Reminder about computer lab policies: *The Honors Program computer lab is for the use of Honors Program students only. Students who are not members of the Honors Program should use other computer labs on campus, regardless of where they live. Please cooperate with this policy. *If the toner is out in one of the printers or if another problem with the printers or the lab arises, please inform the main Honors office. *If you have difficulty printing, save your work and restart the computer before reporting a problem. *Remember you must provide your own paper for the lab. *Please be considerate of the other students working on computers hooked to the printer you're using in order to work out the printing jobs successfully. *It is wise to put contact information on flash drives; in the event you leave one in the computer lab, someone will be able to return it to you. *To open PDFs and other documents from Blackboard, you may need to use Internet Explorer, not Firefox. *Please take precautions to prevent the spread of germs: use hand sanitizer before and after using the lab computers.
