(since we last sent out an update last spring) Now included in the price of the trip, which remains at $199, is a ticket to a show of one of the nation's (and world's) most recognized improvisational comedy groups: The Second City. (From their website): "Since 1959, The Second City has established itself as a Chicago landmark and a national treasure. The theatre that launched the careers of such comic greats as John Belushi, Mike Myers, Bill Murray, Gilda Radner, and more offers nightly comedy shows, as well as a variety of other programs and services." Their current mainstage show is titled "War! Now in its 4th smash year!" (From their site): "The Second City's all new revue, "War! Now In Its 4th Smash Year!", delivers the uproarious hilarity of a nation divided on immigration, education and, of course, that crazy ongoing war in Iraq. No one cares about Africa. War! Now In Its 4th Smash Year!", directed by Marc Warzecha, celebrates political and social strife with the triumphant and giddy energy of teenagers heading to a foreign country to fight for truth, liberty and the American Way, for a people who clearly have no interest in it." The dates of the trip to Chicago are the following: Depart from Neihardt: Saturday, Oct. 14 (early morning) via Arrow Stage Lines Bus. Return: Tuesday, Oct. 17 (late afternoon/evening) via bus. (The Second City ticket show is on Sunday night, Oct. 15th. at 7pm.) So what else is included with the price? The fee of $199 will cover all hotel costs (Travelodge in downtown Chicago--walking distance to museums), bus costs, your Second City ticket, admission to the Art Institute of Chicago, the Shedd Aquarium VIP pass, a ticket to the top of the Hancock Observatory, a pass to the Museum of Science and Industry, the Adler Planetarium, and the Field Museum of Natural History. THERE WILL BE NO SET ITINERARY FOR YOU ONCE IN THE CITY. You will be free to explore the museums and attractions at your own pace, staying with a group, of course. There will be a group of student advisory board members there, as well, so if you'd like to go to the museums as they do, you are encouraged to hang out with them. Chicago is currently a second home to a few Broadway shows. These are not included, but can be purchased separately. Just keep in mind that the Second City show is Sunday night the 15th. "Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz," "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," Altar Boyz," and "The Pirate Queen" are all playing on days we are there. For ticket info on these shows (some of which offer $25 tickets on the day of the show via lottery, which is sometimes easier to get than you think) click here: http://www.broadwayinchicago.com/date_input_orig.php?input1=10%2F14%2F2006&input2=10%2F16%2F2006&imageField.x=58&imageField.y=5 Pre-Professional Workshops, College of Arts and Sciences.
