HP NEWSFLASH August 22, 2006 We are very excited to introduce Ann Koopmann, who is filling the newly created position of Honors Academic Advisor. Ann comes to us with years of experience at the University. She received both her Bachelor’s (Speech Communication) and Master’s (Educational Psychology) degrees from UNL. While working on her master’s degree she served as a graduate assistant for New Student Enrollment and then began working in the Office of Admissions as an Assistant Director and then an Associate Director. Her most recent previous work was with the College of Engineering as the Director of Student Programs, where she spent six years working with various projects, including the learning community, student organizations, the Student Advisory Board, advising pre-engineering students and developing and maintaining contact with alumni and industry for student placement and college support.. Ann has published and presented articles on college student acclimation and college outreach efforts. She has also been involved with projects of assessment on out-of the class experiences and the college student experience. She has had additional coursework in leadership, statistical methods, and teaching learners to learn. She will be continuing her education this fall with additional courses in statistics and higher education, in hopes of completing a PhD in the not too distant future. Ann is a native of Omaha, Nebraska and now resides north of Lincoln in Raymond. Her husband, Kevin is an instrumental music teacher, teaching grades 5-12 at Yutan Public Schools. They have one daughter Emily who is a junior at Raymond Central High School. In her spare time Ann likes to walk (she wears a pedometer) and attend Emily’s high school events. Ann is also very active in her church and the Raymond Central Schools. Ann says, “Coming to the Honors Program is an exciting move. I have long held the program in high esteem and look forward to working with students and faculty from diverse academic areas. The leadership in the program is outstanding and the Honors Program offers great opportunities for students. It is an environment where students, their academic endeavors, and leadership skills are valued and enhanced. This is a great place to be, and I hope to be here for a long time.”
