The workshop will provide an overview of nationally competitive scholarships. The workshop is intended for any student (Freshman-Senior) who wishes to hear in more detail about the scholarship process and lay the groundwork for future scholarship application. Basic components of the application process will be covered: personal statements, resumes, help with obtaining good letters of recommendation, and research on graduate school programs. Contact Dr. Laura Damuth if you are interested: Ldamuth1@unl.edu Wednesday, November 2, 3:00-6:00: Fall Undergraduate Research Symposium, City Campus Union This small undergraduate research symposium is open to all undergraduates. The format includes a reception concurrent with a poster session (3-4 PM) and then a few student oral presentations (4-6PM). To participate please submit an online registration form by Friday, October 21. Registration forms can be found on the UCARE website: htttp://www.unl.edu/ucare. Registration: Registration for second semester is fast approaching. Make appointments with advisors to be certain you’re taking the appropriate and necessary classes. New Student Enrollment Leaders Needed: The New Student Enrollment Office is now accepting applications for Orientation Leaders for the summer of 2006. Orientation Leader positions are open to students who are presently, sophomores, junior or seniors. For many students, being an Orientation Leader has been one of the most rewarding experiences of their college career. Living in Lincoln during the summer for free while making an hourly wage, gaining new friends, working with other leaders on campus, and impacting the lives of incoming freshmen are just a few of the benefits. You also have the opportunity to work with and get to know faculty and administration from the University. Application information is available on-line at www.unl.edu/nse . Applications are due on November 7, 2005 at 5:00 pm. Several questions are on the application and references must be turned in by November 7. Now is the time to think about applying. Reminders: T-Shirts: If you ordered an Honors shirt, come pick it up! Members of the Honors Board will be distributing shirts TUESDAY, OCT 11 thru THURSDAY, OCT 13 from 5-7:00pm outside the CPN Dining Hall. Shirts are $10.00 and checks should be made payable to "UNL Honors Program." If you haven't ordered a shirt, but still want one, email Britni at brbeth01@yahoo.com Attention Graduating seniors: If you are graduating in December, please inform Dr. Berger of that fact at pberger1@unl.edu. Finance 362H: Finance 361H will be offered second semester. It is not listed in the general catalogue. Finance 361 H Section 201 TR 11:00 - 12:15 Call # 3248 Instructor: Dr. Dudney Contracting classes: Contract forms are available on-line from the Honors website, http://honors.unl.edu/ or in mthe Honors computer lab in Neihardt. We will not accept contracts after the October 14 deadline. As contract forms must be signed by the instructor involved, do not leave this till the last minute. Contracted classes and Blackboard: If you have contracted a class, you will be removed from the Blackboard listing for that class. Contact the main Honors office for information about being returned to that list. Textbook Scholarship: Reminder: You MUST purchase all textbooks with your N Card in the University Bookstore. Peer Mentor Groups: First year students: Be certain to attend your peer mentor group meetings. You’ll learn essential information about the Honors Program and UNL during these. This week and next will focus on registration issues. Clarification: If your GPA has dropped below a 3.5, you are not automatically removed from the UHP, though you lose your scholarship. We encourage you to continue to take Honors classes, to complete all requirements including submitting forms, and to work on bringing that GPA up so you can graduate from the Honors Program.
