Apr. 16: Last day to change the status of a contract (see item below) Friday, Apr. 30: Completed thesis due for May 2004 graduation Monday, May 3: Statement of Academic Interest due (students completing the 4th semester) Monday, May 3: Memorandum of Study due (students completing the 6th semester) Saturday, May 8: May 2004 Commencement -- If you're graduating in May and haven't yet submitted your thesis completion form, please do so as soon as possible. -- Reminder of the change in policy with respect to contracts. Each semester, a few people, in agreement with faculty members, decide not to complete the contract portion of a class. As always, the faculty member is the person to decide how to proceed in this instance. However, we will no longer allow this change to occur after the Friday which falls two weeks before the end of classes. After that time, the Honors designation will stand and the grade in the Honors class will be affected. Of course, the faculty member always has the option to give an Incomplete. -- Summer financial aid: If you intend to use your textbook, Regents or other scholarship for summer study, you must apply for summer financial aid in order to do so. Use the Scholarships and Financial Aid website, and go to Summer Financial Aid. You should do this before you register for summer classes. Direct any questions to that office. -- Worried about your thesis? Students and successful NU alumnae meet twice a year on campus for two days of workshops, discussions and individual mentoring. To learn more, you are invited to attend one of our information sessions: Tuesday, April 13 and Wednesday, April 14 7:30 - 8:00 PM Wick Alumni Center -- The Linda and Charles Wilson Program for Humanities in Medicine presents a public lecture by Tom Poulton, MD, Professor of Pediatrics/Critical Care Medicine/Anesthesiology, Medical Director, Pediatric ICU, UNMC. "And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones: Using a Humanities-crafted lens to focus on the Medical Issue of Children's Pain 1850-1960." Dr. Poulton will discuss research he has recently undertaken on representations of children's experience of pain and medical responses to pain (1850-1960). As a part of his address, Dr. Poulton will describe the history of pain management in children as well as representations of children's experience of pain. In describing his current project, he will explore the productive relationship between humanities and medicine and the complicated place of humanities education in the professional education of doctors.
