Deadline extended to Friday, April 2. If you're interested in assisting incoming students with making the transition from high school to college, and would like to earn 1 hour of Honors credit for doing so, consider this opportunity. -- Don't miss the Thesis Showcase on Wednesday, March 31 from 6-8 in the Blue TV Lounge. A number of graduating seniors will be there to showcase their work, to discuss with students the process of the thesis, and to give their input on the value of this sort of work. In addition, a representative from each college will be available to answer college-specific questions. This is a wonderful opportunity to follow up the thesis workshops held earlier this month. Be there! -- Registration for the Undergraduate Research Conference is now open on the Honors website. All seniors completing a thesis should consider participating. Registration deadline is April 2. -- New UHON 395H for fall: UHON 395H: Imagination in Medicine Call No: 8868 Section: 007 CBA 120 -- W 2:30 pm-4:50 pm Pardy and Dolezal This course will explore the role of imagination in medical diagnosis, experimentation, and therapeutics from both traditional and alternative perspectives. We will consider recent philosophical studies of science as social knowledge, as well as literary theory concerning the power dynamics of medical discourse. Some of the questions we will contemplate include: What do doctors and storytellers have in common? How have ancient and contemporary physicians incorporated imagination into their study and practice of medicine? How does the language of medicine impact the patient as an individual? Readings will include diverse literary and historical sources with the goal of integrating the sciences and the humanities. -- Quiz Bowl! Sunday, April 4, 3 pm,. Union Ballroom. All students who are US citizens will find this workshop helpful if they are planning to apply for any National scholarships. (Juniors and sophomores are particularly encouraged to attend; graduating seniors should not attend.) Each semester, a few people, in agreement with faculty members, decide not to complete the contract portion of a class. As always, the faculty member is the person to decide how to proceed in this instance. However, we will no longer allow this change to occur after the Friday which falls two weeks before the end of classes. After that time, the Honors designation will stand and the grade in the Honors class will be affected. Of course, the faculty member always has the option to give an Incomplete. -- We have a Calculus book in the main HP office–it was left in the computer lab. Come pick it up if you're missing it. -- The popular Chem 109 evening class did not appear in the Schedule of Classes for Fall 2004. Registration and Records has added this class and the particulars are: Chem 109 -110/111/121 call numbers 8859, 8860, 8861 for the fall schedule 051. -- Summer financial aid: If you intend to use your textbook, Regents or other scholarship for summer study, you must apply for summer financial aid in order to do so. Use the Scholarships and Financial Aid website, and go to Summer Financial Aid. You should do this before you register for summer classes.
