Feb. 6: Last day to drop a class and receive 25 % refund Wed.., Feb. 11: Tuition and fee payment deadline Fri. Mar. 5: Last day to change a class to/from P/N Fri. Mar. 5: Last day to file a contract Mon. Mar. 8: Summer registration begins Mar. 13-21: Spring break Mar. 29-Apr. 14: Priority registration for Fall 2004 Fri. Apr. 9: Last day to withdraw from a class Fri. Apr. 16: Last day to change the status of a contract (see item below) -- Important notice: a change in policy with respect to contracts. Each semester, a few people, in agreement with faculty members, decide not to complete the contract portion of a class. As always, the faculty member is the person to decide how to proceed in this instance. However, we will no longer allow this change to occur after the Friday which falls two weeks before the end of classes. After that time, the Honors designation will stand and the grade in the Honors class will be affected. Of course, the faculty member always has the option to give an Incomplete. -- Professor Al Kamil will speak to UHP students concerning Cedar Point Biological Station at 4:30 Thursday, Feb. 12 in the Blue TV Lounge. Anyone interested in biological field research experiences should attend or contact Dr. Kamil. -- Ireland: Her people and her culture: there's still room in this trip, which will leave in mid-late June and spend 2 weeks touring Ireland. 3 hours HP credit available. See Dr. Lyons for brochures and details. Deadline to enroll for the trip is February 16. -- UHON 395H Introduction to Coastal Marine Studies also has room. This is a 3 week stay in Maine from the middle of June through July 4th weekend at the College of the Atlantic, studying the intertidal zone. This class has been opened up to the campus, and space is limited, so be sure to see Dr. Lyons for details immediately. -- The National Collegiate Honors Council is sponsoring an Honors "Semester" in London from May 17-June 18, 2004. 8 hours of Honors credit available, to be spread among at least 2 fields. Applications are due by March 1. See Dr. Lyons for brochures and more information. -- Applications for the Edythe Wiebers scholarship for study abroad experiences are available in CBA 138, International Affairs, 103 Ag Hall, 1223 Oldfather, 181 W Nebraska Hall, Woods 102, 233 Mabel Lee, and 147 Anderson. Requirements: Students must read, write, and speak a foreign language, have at least a 3.0 GPA, have completed at least 42 semester hours, and have worked to provide at least 10% of their undergraduate education. Deadline is Feb. 6. -- Information on pre-professional visits for spring for the College of Arts and Sciences is now available in the Reading/Resource Room. -- Undergraduate Research Assistants (URA) – The University of Nebraska Public Policy Center is a link between University of Nebraska (UNL, UNO, UNK and the UN Medical Center) researchers and elected and appointed officials, state and local agency staff, the public at large, and others who represent the diverse policy interests of Nebraska. We are looking for one or two URAs to work 10 hours/week at the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center, located at 121 South 13th Street (the SW corner of 13th and O Streets), Suite 303. URA duties include research, assisting with meeting coordination, general support for various projects and the PPC office. We are not concerned whether you have a policy background, but we interested in hiring someone who is reliable, is willing to work hard (sometimes on very boring tasks, sometimes on more interesting ones), and who wants to learn more about public policy. The dates are July 3-31, and the program centers on the excavation of medieval Walhain Castle. Honors students are receive Honors credit, awarded in either History or Earth Sciences. The course is open to all students in good standing; there are no prerequisites, and no previous background in archaeology is required. The cost of the program, which includes tuition and fees, board and lodging --but not overseas airfare-- is estimated at around $4000.
